An Tóchar Vs Barndarraig
Date: Wednesday, 22 June 2016
On another sunny evening at Arás an Tóchar, we saw the An Tóchar U12 Girls squad take on a determined Barndarraig side.
A good, exciting first half, both teams equally matched, we were leading at half time:
An Tóchar 2:00 to Barndarraig’s 0:01.
Good performances all over the pitch, the ball defended well in the back line, good passing and running from midfield and kicking on into the forward line.
Following a regroup and brief talk at half time, we gathered ourselves, focusing particularly on our tackling skills and challenging more for the ball (“moving and getting out in front of the opponent”).
This tactic worked well in the second half, the number of fouls committed reducing with more player movement from the centre-back line to the centre-forward line. Again, an equally matched and committed second half saw An Tóchar kicking six points from play.
To Barndarraig’s credit, they rallied but missed a number of chances, scoring only one point in the second half.
– Yet again, a great battling performance from the team – our training and improving fitness working to our advantage again.
Final Score: An Tóchar: 2:06, Barndarraig 0:02
Delighted and very proud to see 22 players turn up to play for An Tóchar.
15 starting players and 7 very eager substitutes itching to get on and play to the best of their abilities for their club.
We consistently have strong numbers at training and we need to continue this if we want to develop this squad for the future.
Delighted also to see some new joiners – we welcome you.
Girls, I encourage you to keep training. Keep it honest and continue to develop the bond with your team mates – “You get out of it what you put into it”.
The league shield was accepted by Ellemarie Fanning, one of our senior players and our captain for the evening. Ellemarie accepted the trophy on behalf of the (now) 28 players that turn up and train week in and week out.
