U-14 League
Aras An Tochar
Both teams went into this encounter, with a mixed bag of performances that had yielded very little reward with their positions lying at the wrong end of the table. So with a somewhat tentatively start, in which we started with some good early possession but failed to hit the scoreboard, our guests done the opposite. This was a pre-cursor for the rest of the game as the men from Greystones gave a polished display at score taking. The management had spoke a number of times about discipline and respect not only to each other as a club but also to officials and to the opposition, with self control being key, sadly with found ourselves down to 14 players midway through the first half. As the Seasiders got on the ball they quickly put us on the back foot with some nice play with the ball going over the bar on a few occasions however we were unlucky to concede a couple of fortuitous goals in those attacks. We tried to crawl back the lead they had gathered but wayward kicking and a lack of decisive drive in the final third was clear to see in the half time scoreline, which saw us trail 0-3 to 3-05!
It was a dejected feeling coming off the pitch at half-time but we knew everyone of our players could play better, while their goals gave them a more richly deserved lead than we felt was fair. The rally cry at half time was to go back out and to dig deep for the first 10-15mins, to leave nothing behind and sustain a push to get us back into the contest. With that said, the ‘boys in blue’ took to the pitch and once settled in their play moved the ball at pace and created a tempo that our opposition couldn’t contain, none more than exhibited by our man of the match Cian McHugh, to which we hit the post three times! We undoubtedly had more of the ball and a lot more possession but with good saves from their net minder and our wide count growing more than our score we finished the game on the wrong side, with a scoreline of 1-05 v 5-09.
The squad for the night was; Ross McCormack, Sam Ireland, Ciaran Byrne, Eoin Murphy, Mark Curley, Dylan Delamere (Captain), Jack Lawlor, Shane Keenan, Conor Devlin, Tarla Fanning, Gavin Fogarty, Killian Hogan, Dylan Symes, Oisin Cullen, Jamie-Lee Cummins, Cian McHugh, Jack McGillycuddy and Jordan Brady.
